Fair Health to add to suite of charge benchmarks

Fair Health, an independent, nonprofit organization with a database of 25 billion private healthcare insurance claims, will add a new category to its suite of FH Charge Benchmarks.

The new product, FH Category III, will offer benchmark charge values for Category III Current Procedural Terminology codes, according to a news release. The American Medical Association describes these codes as "a temporary set of codes for emerging technologies, services and procedures." Some examples of representative services in the category include adaptive behavior assessment and treatment, as well as computer-aided detection for imaging.

Overall, Fair Health attributed the addition of FH Category III to transparency efforts.

"We look for ways to value procedures for which data have never before been available to the market," said Fair Health President Robin Gelburd. "Grappling with Category III codes is sometimes difficult for payers and administrators, and we now offer data to help them make decisions about these codes."

FH Category III is expected to launch this month.
