Chattanooga, Tenn.-based Erlanger Children's Hospital received the single largest gift in its history — a $5 million donation from the Kennedy Foundation, according to The Times Free Press.
The donation will support the children's outpatient center, slated to open in December.
Molly Kennedy, who was born at Erlanger Children's prematurely, weighing 1 pound 12 ounces, was the inspiration for the gift.
"The doctors and nurses saved my life, and I'm so honored that my family chose to give this donation on my behalf," Ms. Kennedy said, according to The Times Free Press. "The work that is being done here means so much to my family, and we're so happy to have the opportunity to give back to the hospital that gave so much to us by donating money that will be used to help other children."
