Eastern Connecticut Health Network in Manchester ended its contract with health insurer UnitedHealth Group after the two sides did not come to an agreement by Oct. 15, according to a Hartford Courant report.
Roughly 9,000 UnitedHealth patients between ECHN's two hospitals will have to go to other healthcare facilities or face higher out-of-network prices, the report said. However, in-network rates will still cover emergency care, post-surgical follow-ups and births in which the mother is in her third trimester and has previously used the hospitals.
ECHN, which recently renewed its contract with Aetna, said it hasn't received a reimbursement rate increase from UnitedHealth since 2003, according to the report. However, UnitedHealth, which includes UnitedHealthcare and Oxford Health Plans, said ECHN is requesting a 250 percent rate increase for many services.
