About 280 positions will be eliminated from Durham, N.C.-based Duke University Health System as it plans to "right-size and realign the structure of some of its administrative and operational functions," Duke officials said in a statement shared with Becker's.
Positions will primarily be reduced through retirements, redeployments and closures of vacant positions, according to the health system.
Fewer than 50 positions, all in administrative and managerial roles, are affected.
Duke officials said the decision came after months of "careful consideration and in-depth analysis" and that the health system remains steadfast in its mission to advance the way it delivers care.
