Delaware Hospitals' Community Benefits Increased 14.5% in FY 2010

In fiscal year 2010, Delaware hospitals contributed $357 million in community benefits, an increase of 14.5 percent from FY 2009, according to a report from the Delaware Healthcare Association (pdf).

The $357 million in community benefits, which includes charity care and other forms of subsidized healthcare and health programs, was also 26.8 percent higher than the total recorded in FY 2008.


The largest portion of community benefits was the net loss on all services provided under government-sponsored programs. The unpaid costs of Medicare, Medicaid and other public programs totaled $169.5 million in FY 2010.
