Dana-Farber's operating loss grows in Q2

Boston-based Dana-Farber Cancer Institute saw its operating loss grow in the second quarter of fiscal year 2021 when compared to the same quarter last year, according to recently released financial documents.

In the quarter ended March 31, the cancer institute recorded an operating loss of $16.1 million. Last year, the cancer institute posted a $14.3 million operating loss. 

In the second quarter of fiscal 2021, Dana-Farber saw its revenue year over year grow 4.6 percent to $507.8 million. The cancer institute also saw its patient revenue grow 6.7 percent year over year in the second quarter to $362 million. 

The health system's expenses also rose in the second quarter of fiscal 2021 to $523.8 million, up from $500 million recorded in the same quarter last year. 

After factoring investment gains, Dana-Farber recorded a net income of $67.3 million in the second quarter of fiscal 2021. In the same period last year, Dana Farber saw a net loss of $118.1 million.
