Hartford-based Connecticut Children's said it will raise its minimum wage by $3 to $18 an hour, effective Oct. 6.
The raise will affect almost a third of the system's employees, or almost 900 people, the hospital said. The move is expected to improve staff retention.
"In addition to caring for the children and families of Connecticut and beyond, we also care about our team members," Jim Shmerling, president and CEO, said in a statement. "This increase is a direct investment in them."
The health system offers more than 40 sites of care in three states.
