Chicago-based CommonSpirit posted an operating loss of $1.4 billion for the fiscal year ending June 30 compared to a $1.3 billion loss the previous year as increasing costs and labor challenges continued to affect its bottom line.
Investment gains helped mitigate the overall loss, with the 143-hospital system posting a net loss of $259 million compared to a $1.8 billion loss in fiscal year 2022. Expenses increased 2 percent year over year to $35.9 billion while revenue rose 1.8 percent to $34.5 billion
