Colorado Releases Exchange Health Insurance Rates

Colorado has released the health insurance rates for its new exchange, with monthly medical coverage premiums ranging from $135.57 on the low end to more than $1,000.

In 2011, consumers buying individual health insurance policies in Colorado paid an average monthly premium of $198.38 for comprehensive major medical coverage, according to the 2012 Colorado Health Cost Report.

The lowest premium for coverage through the exchange is set for the least expensive individual catastrophic coverage plan, while the most expensive is the priciest silver-level small group plan. Thirteen insurers will provide 150 plans through the individual exchange and 92 plans for small businesses.

The state marketplace, Connect for Health Colorado, will open for enrollment on Oct. 1 under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
