Pineville (Ky.) Community Hospital is at risk of losing its Medicare contract March 7, after a survey found multiple deficiencies, including infection control concerns, a spokesperson from CMS confirmed to Becker's Hospital Review.
The Kentucky State Survey Agency conducted a recertification survey at the 120-bed acute care hospital Jan. 30. During the investigation, state regulators found the hospital failed to have an effective governing body, did not ensure patients were free from a combination of physician and chemical constraints, failed to obtain patient consent to care and did not ensure funds were available to conduct necessary preventive maintenance on some equipment.
In one instance, the regulators found the hospital failed to sterilize surgical equipment in accordance with its preventive maintenance schedule, putting patients at risk. In addition, regulators noted the hospital continued to admit patients or treatment without obtaining informed consent.
The Medicare contract termination can be rescinded if the hospital deploys a corrective action plan by March 7 that is approved by CMS.
