CMS has rescinded a $677,440 fine against Washington, D.C.-based Saint Elizabeths Hospital after it was determined the hospital met exception criteria, an agency spokesperson told Becker's.
Exemptions for CMS' price transparency rule include:
- Federally owned hospital facilities, including facilities operated by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Military Treatment Facilities operated by the U.S. Department of Defense.
- Hospitals operated by an Indian Health Program as defined in section 4(12) of the Indian Health Care Improvement Act.
- State forensic hospitals that provide treatment exclusively to individuals who are in the custody of penal authorities.
According to its website, Saint Elizabeths is Washington D.C.'s public psychiatric facility for those with "serious and persistent mental illness who need intensive inpatient care to support their recovery."
