CMS delayed the termination of Middletown-based Connecticut Valley Hospital's Medicare contract, according to the Hartford Courant.
CVH was placed on immediate jeopardy status following a Sept. 14 investigation that found the hospital was not in compliance with federal guidelines. As a result of the investigation, which found safety and security issues, the hospital was at risk of losing Medicare and Medicaid funding Oct. 27. However, on Oct. 30 CMS officials said the Oct. 27 termination notice was rescinded and an extended termination date will be determined in the next few days.
CMS officials had already extended the termination deadline to Oct. 28, to allow the hospital a chance to submit a corrective action plan, according to the report.
Earlier this year, 10 mental health workers at CVH's Whiting Forensic Division were arrested for allegedly kicking, jabbing, taunting and throwing liquids at a 62-year-old patient.
It is unclear if the Medicare contract termination notice is connected to the abuse scandal.
