CMS has awarded the next round of contracts for Medicare recovery audit contractors.
The contracts were issued to Performant Recovery, Cotiviti and HMS Federal Solutions. The contractors will perform post-payment review to correct Medicare claims that contain overpayments or underpayments. The contractors will review Medicare Part A and B fee-for-service claims for all provider types other than home health/hospice, prosthetics, durable medical equipment, orthotics and supplies.
Performant Recovery will also perform post-payment review of home health/hospice and DMEPOS claims nationally, according to CMS.
With the award of the new contracts, CMS will be able to implement improvements to the Recovery Audit Program announced in 2015.
"These awards continue the implementation of many of the Recovery Audit Program enhancements designed to reduce provider burden, enhance program oversight, and increase transparency in the program," said CMS.
