Hudson Holdco, the new for-profit owner of Jersey City, N.J.-based Christ Hospital, has terminated the contracts with 19 commercial health insurers, according to a Jersey Journal report.
Christ Hospital will still be in-network for patients with Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey. Hudson Holdco severed ties with Aetna, Amerigroup New Jersey, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare and others, but it did not give a reason why the contracts were terminated.
Patients will not have to pay additional out-of-pocket expenses for the first 30 days, and those who do not have out-of-network coverage can only receive paid medical expenses through the hospital's emergency department, according to the report.
In March, a bankruptcy court accepted Hudson Holdco's bid to purchase Christ Hospital. When Hudson Holdco purchased Bayonne (N.J.) Medical Center in 2008 and Hoboken (N.J.) University Medical Center last year, it also terminated the existing commercial payor contracts.
