Children's Hospital Los Angeles received a $3 million pledge from Teri and Byron Pollitt to help establish an endowed chair position for the hospital's Fetal and Neonatal Institute, according to the San Marino Tribune.
The position will be named the Teresa and Byron Pollitt Family Chair in Fetal and Neonatal Medicine and will support research priorities to improve outcomes and clinical care for pregnant women and children.
The holder of the chair will be Philippe Friedlich, MD, chief of CHLA's Division of Neonatology, professor of clinical pediatrics and surgery at Los-Angeles based Keck School of Medicine of USC and co-director of Fetal and Neonatal Medicine.
"This gift will give the Fetal and Neonatal Institute more opportunity to care for and improve the health of our youngest, most vulnerable patients," Dr. Friedlich told the San Marino Tribune. "With this new support, the Institute will hire an epidemiologist, provide greater support for families and engage government agencies to improve the care provided for patients treated through the Fetal and Neonatal Institute."
