CFO John J. Gantner: Leading the shift to clinical integration and population health

John J. Gantner serves as the executive vice president and CFO of Clearwater, Fla.-based health system BayCare, overseeing financial management for all of the system's divisions.

Since taking on his current role in January, Mr. Gantner has played a key leadership role in helping BayCare's plan and prepare for its shift toward clinical integration and a new, population health model.

Earlier this year, BayCare was listed among Becker's Hospital Review's list of "21 hospitals and health systems with strong finances."

Prior to joining BayCare, Mr. Gantner was executive vice president for finance and partner company operations at Neptune, N.J-based Meridian Health System, a $1.6 billion integrated health system. During his six years at Meridian, Mr. Gantner oversaw all traditional fiscal activities and had operating responsibility for the portfolio of 26 partner companies with $300 million in revenues.

Mr. Gantner had a leadership role in Meridian's acquisition of two acute-care hospitals and its reform-related strategies and programs centered on population health management, clinical integration and expense reduction.

In addition to Meridian, Mr. Gantner spent 14 years at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, N.J., where his last position was executive vice president and treasurer, and he has also served as a partner with Ernst & Young's New Jersey healthcare practice.
