Boston Children's Hospital's operating income was up 28 percent in the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, and the financial boost was largely driven by a significant increase in the number of international patients coming to the hospital to receive care, according to a Boston Globe report.
Due to the hospital's increased outreach and marketing overseas, the number of patients from the Middle East, Asia and Latin America seeking care at Boston Children's in fiscal 2014 was up 47 percent.
Boston Children's CFO Doug Vanderslice told the Boston Globe, "The population in the Boston and New England area is fairly static. Finding growth in international patients is very much a positive sign."
The hospital reported $113 million in operating income for the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, up from $88 million in 2013.
