Mercy Health-Fairfield (Ohio) Hospital, part of Cincinnati-based Bon Secours Mercy Health, is closing its labor and delivery services and transferring them to Mercy Health-Anderson Hospital and Mercy Health-West Hospital, both in Cincinnati, effective May 1.
The transition will allow Mercy Health's obstetrics teams to collaborate at Mercy Anderson and Mercy West, making the latter two hospitals the health system's providers of labor and delivery services, according to a March 19 news release shared with Becker's. The shift also aims to optimize provider staffing and patient care while streamlining services, improving patient experience and enhancing outcomes.
"By bringing our teams together in two focused centers of excellence, we ensure that our mothers, babies and families receive care from providers with extensive OBGYN, labor and delivery experience," Brian Gwyn, CEO of Bon Secours Mercy Health, said in the release. "It also allows Mercy Health to be a good steward of its resources, investing in the latest, most advanced tools and technology in two locations instead of three."
Services such as mammography and breast surgery will continue to be provided at Fairfield hospital following the transition.
Providers will work with patients to ensure a smooth care transition, the release said. Employees affected by the service change will be offered new positions within the health system, which includes obstetrics positions at West Hospital, Anderson Hospital and the Mercy Health Medical Group.
