The Georgia Department of Community Health has awarded the contract for administering the state's health benefit plan to Atlanta-based Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia, starting Jan. 1, 2014.
Blue Cross will provide health plan administration and medical management. The health insurer will coordinate with St. Louis-based pharmacy benefit management organization Express Scripts to administer medication benefits and with Franklin, Tenn.-based Healthways — a well-being improvement company — to coordinate wellness programs and related incentives.
State health benefit plan beneficiaries will have the option of enrolling in one of three PPO-type plan options from Blue Cross. The state will carry out an outreach effort to educate people on their options during the open enrollment and retiree change option period from Oct. 21 through Nov. 8.
