Health insurer Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City has launched a private insurance exchange, the first in the area, according to a BCBS of Kansas City news release.
The Blue KC Exchange will allow its customers to compare rates of up to 10 of its different health plans. People who do not have BCBS of Kansas City can still see the health plans but will not be able to see the prices until they apply and go through an underwriting process, according to a Kansas City Star report.
The exchange is expected to mirror what state health insurance exchanges could look like in 2014. Roughly 6,000 small-business consumers and 80,000 individuals can try the exchange option during renewal periods.
