BJC HealthCare's operating income surges 37.3% in Q2

St. Louis-based BJC HealthCare reported operating revenue of $2.1 billion in the second quarter of fiscal year 2015, up from $2 billion for the same period a year ago, according to the system's recently released unaudited financial statement.

The system's expenses also increased in the second quarter of this year, growing 4.9 percent from the comparable period of 2014. The system's expenses related to salaries and benefits increased to $971.8 million in the second quarter of this year, up from $904.2 million in the same period of last year.

BJC reported operating income of $126.3 million for the second quarter of fiscal 2015, up 37.3 percent from the comparable period of last year.

Admissions at the system's facilities were up 3.8 percent for the year as of June 30, compared to the same period of last year.

The system ended the second quarter with net income of $232.3 million compared to net income of $216.3 million for the same period of 2014.
