Atlanta plans to study future uses for Atlanta Medical Center more than a year after it closed, Atlanta Business Chronicle reported Nov. 8.
Marietta, Ga.-based Wellstar closed the hospital last year, leading to backlash and criticism that the move could worsen healthcare disparities and strain the nearby Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, the report said. Leaders with Wellstar cited falling revenue and increasing costs as reasons for the closure.
Now Atlanta's planning department is looking for a contractor that can aid discussions with Wellstar about what to do with the property. That person will be expected to hold public meetings and consult with Wellstar, along with assessing buildings, according to the report.
