St. Louis-based Ascension, Chicago-based CommonSpirit and Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health are the three largest Catholic nonprofit healthcare systems in the country, operating a total of 370 hospitals.
All three systems recently reported their latest financial results, and all three were deep into the red regarding operating losses. Ascension (140 hospitals), Trinity Health (88 hospitals) and CommonSpirit (142 hospitals) all reported full-year results for the fiscal year ending June 30.
