Altarum reveals MIPS scoring tool: 5 things to know

Altarum introduced a tool to help clinicians improve Merit-based Incentive Payment System scores ahead of a looming CMS reporting deadline.

Here are five things to know.

1. MIPS is a payment track of the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015.

2. To comply with MIPS, approximately 400,000 eligible physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists and certified registered nurse anesthetists must submit 2017 performance data to CMS by March 31.

3. Altarum's interactive web-based tool MIPScast aims to help clinicians predict and improve MIPS scores ahead of that deadline by allowing them to compare benchmarks and estimate their final score, the organization said via news release. The tool also allows clinicians to look at different scenarios and maximize MIPS scores prior to CMS submission.

4. Clinicians using the tool may choose, enter or upload data for their preferred measures and activities across MIPS performance categories, according to Altarum. Then they are able to analyze reporting methods, measures and bonus points to help them improve MIPS scores.

5. More information about the tool is available here.
