The American Hospital Association has sent comments on price transparency to the Federal Trade Commission, in advance of the FTC's public workshop next week on healthcare competition issues.
In a letter to the FTC, the AHA expressed support for price transparency efforts: "The AHA and its members stand ready to work with policymakers on innovative ways to build on efforts already
occurring at the state level and share information that helps consumers make better choices about their healthcare."
According to the letter, the AHA's efforts to promote healthcare price transparency have included developing a policy regarding hospital openness about price and supporting the Health Care Price Transparency Promotion Act of 2013, which would require states to establish laws requiring hospitals to disclose charges for certain services and require health insurers to provide to consumers upon request a statement of estimated out-of-pocket costs.
