AHA receives multimillion-dollar funding from HHS for disaster preparedness

Through a partnership over the next five years, HHS will provide a multimillion-dollar fund for public health and disaster preparedness to the American Hospital Association.

The funding will come from HHS' Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response, according to a Jan. 20 news release from AHA.

The money will be used for community health resilience, national health security lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic and technical assistance.

The partnership began in 2021 and will continue into 2026.

"As learned throughout the current pandemic, the ability to identify and disseminate crucial information during the formative moments of a crisis cannot be taken for granted," said Michelle Hood, executive vice president and COO of AHA. "That is why we are so pleased to begin this partnership with ASPR, where we can work together to create meaningful changes to the awareness and readiness of disaster response. This collaboration will help save lives and strengthen the overall state of public health in this nation."
