AHA, Henry Ford invest in startups to improve health access

The American Hospital Association is providing early financing for investment funds, including female-led venture capital firm SteelSky Ventures, to improve healthcare access, quality and affordability.

Detroit-based Henry Ford Health, Tacoma, Wash.-based MultiCare Health System and other healthcare companies are also investing in SteelSky Ventures, according to a March 22 AHA news release.

SteelSky invests in medical devices, consumer health, digital health, new healthcare delivery models, e-pharmacy and retail therapeutics.

"SteelSky Ventures is making critical investments in women's health with an eye for innovation in the delivery of care," Rick Pollack, AHA president and CEO, said in the release. "The AHA is excited about how this fund can positively affect the double bottom-line of financial and social impact."

AHA also partnered with Jumpstart Nova, a venture fund that will invest exclusively in Black-founded healthcare companies, in January. Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare, Charlotte, N.C.-based Atrium Health, Dublin, Ohio-based Cardinal Health and Henry Ford joined AHA in the partnership.
