AbbVie donates record $100M to Ronald McDonald House

AbbVie, a North Chicago, Ill.-based pharmaceutical company, donated $100 million to the Ronald McDonald House Charities — the largest single gift in the charity's history.

The record-setting gift will expand access to housing and family-centered services for pediatric patients and their families during hospital stays. Specifically, part of the $100 million will support construction of family-centered spaces and more than 600 guest sleeping rooms in 26 states and at 32 Ronald McDonald Houses.  The gift will also be used to fund support services, such as providing meals, buying groceries and offering laundry services for families with a sick child.

"While RMHC serves millions of children and their families each year, we know that we only serve a small percentage of pediatric patients' families who need our services. This extraordinary gift from AbbVie will move us closer to meeting that unmet need," said Sheila Musolino, president and CEO of RMHC.
