A North Carolina church relieved $3.3M in medical bills. Then it burned the debts

Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Trinity Moravian Church relieved $3.3 million in medical debt for residents in three North Carolina counties in Partnership with RIP Medical Debt, The Dispatch reported March 27.

To commemorate the occasion, the church held a symbolic debt-burning ceremony.

A campaign from the church raised $15,048, which was used by RIP Medical Debt to purchase about $3.3 million in past due medical bills, according to the report. A partnership between the church and organization last year forgave $1.65 million worth of debt.
