81% of medical groups have embezzlement safeguards, poll finds

Most medical groups said they make efforts to prevent embezzlement, including the use of internal controls, according to the Medical Group Management Association's most recent Stat poll.

The July 17 poll asked about 1,300 medical group leaders if their organization takes embezzlement prevention measures. Eighty-one percent of respondents said "yes"; 8 percent said "no"; and 11 percent were "unsure."

Many leaders who said "yes" indicated they used internal controls such as audits, checks and balances and separation of duties while applying accounting best practices,  the association said.
