Joe Flanagan has returned as CEO of R1 RCM following the completion of TowerBrook Capital Partners and Clayton, Dubilier & Rice's $8.9 billion deal to take the company private.
Here are six things to know about R1's returning CEO:
1. Mr. Flanagan held several positions at General Electric from 1993 to 2006.
2. He held several executive positions at telecommunications equipment manufacturer Nortel Networks Corporation, including president of Nortel Business Services.
3. He also previously served as senior vice president of worldwide operations and supply chain at Applied Materials.
4. Mr. Flanagan joined R1 RCM as COO in 2013. The company said he was instrumental in creating and standardizing the R1 Performance Stack.
5. He became R1's CEO in 2016 and held the role until he stepped down in January 2023. He remained on R1's board of directors after departing the chief executive role.
6. In August, it was announced that Mr. Flanagan would return to the role of CEO following the private equity firms' acquisition of the company. Lee Rivas, who succeeded Mr. Flanagan as CEO, said in an email to employees that he was "supportive of this move as R1 approaches its next chapter as a private company."
