4 Ohio Health Systems Create Purchasing Alliance

Four Ohio-based hospitals and health systems have created the Purchasing Organization of the Western Reserve to drive down supply cost and leverage economies of scale.

The four systems within POWR are University Hospitals in Cleveland, EMH Healthcare in Elyria, Parma Community General Hospital in Parma and Southwest General Health Center in Middleburg Heights.

In the four months since POWR members have collaborated, they have saved roughly $700,000, including $250,000 on physician preference items such as orthopedic implants and cardiology devices.
