Numerous healthcare organizations recently received donations to fund research, advance treatments, improve patient care and start renovations.
Here are four notable donations, pledges or bequests given to healthcare organizations by various entities reported by Becker's Hospital Review or other news entities in the last week:
1. Bryan Medical Center (Lincoln, Neb.) received the largest single donation in its 82-year history from the Acklie Charitable Foundation. The amount of the gift remains undisclosed. The private donation will support a $45 million expansion and renovation of Bryan's East Campus.
2. Erlanger Children's Hospital (Chattanooga, Tenn.) obtained a $5 million donation from the Kennedy Foundation — the single largest gift in its history. The donation will support the children's outpatient center, slated to open in December.
3. Partners in Health (Boston) is a foundation that broadens access to healthcare for marginalized populations. It received a "visionary" $15 million gift from the Wagner Foundation to establish new programs, including an effort to collect and store health data in remote Liberia, where health records are often difficult to come by.
4. The Valley Hospital (Ridgewood, N.J.) received two donations Aug. 15 totaling $35 million. The gifts, $15 million from Bolger Foundation and $20 million from an anonymous donor, will go toward construction of its 372-bed hospital in Paramus, N.J.
