A third New Jersey CarePoint Health Systems hospital looks to be closer to receiving nonprofit status after the state's health planning board recommended such a move, according to an April 6 nj.com report.
CarePoint transitioned into a nonprofit organization in 2022 after co-founder Vivek Garipalli donated his majority interest to the nonprofit. CarePoint said the move will allow it to better serve its patients, many of whom are uninsured and on Medicaid.
After two other hospitals in the group, Hoboken University Medical Center and Bayonne Medical Center, were given the green light in late March, Jersey City-based Christ Hospital is now recommended to have similar status. The hospital has 10 days to submit an analysis of the lease agreement it signed in December after the hospital was sold for $37 million, the report said.
Christ Hospital may face further action after it initially failed to highlight the lease deal before the state health board originally approved turning Christ Hospital into a nonprofit entity, the report said.
