Many medical bills contain errors or overcharges. In fact, billing advocates and other health professionals estimate up to 80 percent of medical bills contain errors.
But three health systems recently spoke with WREX about what they are doing to make sure patients' bills are error free.
Here is what they told the TV station.
Quint Wehmer, Director of Patient Services at Rockford (Ill.) Memorial Hospital.
"We do not lick a stamp and send the claim out the door. The majority of our claims are electronically transmitted."
Jason Roth, Business Office Manager at SwedishAmerican Medical Group (Rockford, Ill.).
"Our computer system is uploaded with things to make sure there aren't duplicate [claims]."
Nicole Fountain, Director of Revenue Cycle at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center (Rockford, Ill.).
"Our edits catch stuff daily, and we're working them [claims] before we even send them to the insurance company."
