Madera (Calif.) Community Hospital, Montebello-based Beverly Community Hospital and Hollister's Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital are all trying to clinch life-saving deals with health systems looking to revitalize such distressed hospitals, Cal Matters said in an Aug. 14 report.
Two of those hospitals — Madera and Hazel Hawkins — are the only ones in their counties. The three combined have asked the state for $125 million in relief funds, according to the report.
The Madera hospital filed for bankruptcy March 10 and has reached an initial agreement for Roseville-based Adventist Health to take over. Advanced Management signed a letter of intent to operate Hazel Hawkins on Aug. 3.
The attorney general approved the takeover of Beverly Community Hospital, east of Los Angeles, by Los Angeles-based American Healthcare Systems on July 7.
