A group called the North County Cares Coalition demonstrated today to mark the two-year anniversary of the closure of North Adams (Mass.) Regional Hospital, according to a report on MassLive.com.
The financially troubled hospital announced it was closing March 25, 2014, and was shuttered three days later.
The group said the event is "part of an ongoing effort to restore a full-service hospital in Northern Berkshire County," according to the report.
Berkshire Health Systems, the hospital's new owner, still offers some on-site services, including an emergency department, same-day surgery and imaging, the report notes. However, the North County Cares Coalition, which comprises residents and advocates, including unionized nurses, want more.
"North County residents struggle more than most with asthma, heart disease, mental illnesses and opioid addiction," the coalition said, according to the report.
The demonstration took place at 4:30 p.m. local time at city hall.
