Two hospitals that were recently fined by CMS for alleged price transparency violations are appealing the punishments.
Salem, Ark.-based Fulton County Hospital was fined $63,900 on July 20 and Chicago-based Community First Medical Center was fined $847,740 on July 24. Both fines are under CMS review, according to an Aug. 24 update from the agency's price transparency enforcement website.
To date, five other hospitals have been fined for price transparency violations. One of those hospitals, Wichita Falls, Texas-based Kell West Regional Hospital, appealed its fine earlier this year. That appeal remains under review, according to CMS.
