11 Hospitals Receive Credit Downgrades in Past Month

Eleven hospitals and health systems received a credit downgrade during the past month, according to a report from HFA Partners.

The hospitals and health systems receiving credit downgrades included the following:

  • Heritage Valley Health System (Beaver, Pa.) — from A1 to A2 (Moody's)
  • Lake Region Healthcare Corp. (Fergus Falls, Minn.) — from BBB to BBB- (S&P)
  • Mississippi Baptist Health System (Jackson) — from A- to BBB+ (S&P)
  • Newport (R.I.) Hospital — from A to BBB+ (S&P)
  • Oneida (N.Y.) Health System — from BBB- to BB+ (S&P)
  • Presence Health (Chicago) — from Baa1 to Baa2 (Moody's)
  • Provena Health (Mokena, Ill.) — from Baa1 to Baa2 (Moody's)
  • Providence Health & Services (Renton, Wash.) — from Aa2 to Aa3 (Moody's) and from AA to AA- (S&P)
  • Resurrection Health Care System (Chicago) — from Baa1 to Baa2 (Moody's)
  • Valley Medical Center (Renton, Wash.) — from A- to BBB+ (Fitch)
  • Wayne Memorial Hospital (Goldsboro, N.C.) — from A3 to Baa1 (Moody's)

Eleven more hospitals and health systems garnered a credit upgrade in the past month:

  • Children's Hospital of Alabama (Birmingham) — from A2 to A1 (Moody's)
  • Deaconess Health System (Evansville, Ind.) — from A to A+ (S&P)
  • Meriter Hospital (Madison, Wis.) — from A1 to Aa3 (Moody's)
  • Overlake Hospital Medical Center (Bellevue, Wash.) — from A- to A (S&P)
  • Pella (Iowa) Regional Health Center — from BBB- to BBB (Fitch)
  • Peterson Regional Medical Center (Kerrville, Texas) — from BBB- to BBB (S&P)
  • Rex Healthcare (Raleigh, N.C.) — from A+ to AA- (Fitch)
  • St. Francis Regional Medical Center (Shakopee, Minn.) — from A- to A (Fitch)
  • St. John Health System (Tulsa, Okla.) — from A+ to AA (S&P)
  • Texas Health Resources (Arlington) — AA- to AA (S&P)
  • Vail (Colo.) Valley Medical Center — from A- to A (S&P)
