The expansion of a psychiatric facility in Grand Junction, Colo., moved closer to reality following a recent donation, according to a KJCT report.
St. Mary's Hospital, also in Grand Junction, donated $2.5 million toward the expansion of West Springs Hospital. The construction project for a larger psychiatric facility is slated to cost a total of $34 million.
West Springs Hospital said it is constantly at 90 percent capacity, which forces the hospital to turn away many patients looking for mental healthcare services, KJCT reported.
"Our hope is by building this new facility, they will never or rarely need to leave our community on the Western Slope to go receive care somewhere else," Kim Bowe the executive director of West Springs, told the TV station. "It's our mission to help people here where their support systems are."
Ms. Bowe hopes the psychiatric facility is ready for patients in late 2018 or early 2019.
