Expansion efforts are underway at Nashville, Tenn.-based Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt, according to the Herald Chronicle.
The expansion will be built on top of the hospital's existing structure over a 30-month period. The four-story addition will provide 160,000 square feet of space, bringing the facility's total size to more than 1 million square feet.
The first two floors of the expansion will include 76 critical care and acute care beds for newborns and pediatric patients, along with family areas, a playroom, educational space and patient consultation rooms.
The project is funded by the "Growing to New Heights" campaign — a three-year, $40 million fundraising effort that will help cover construction costs up to $100 million.
