University Medical Center New Orleans is opening a primary care clinic on UMC's campus to alleviate emergency room use and improve patient access to direct care, according to The Times-Picayune.
The $3.6 million facility will include 32 examination rooms and house the Louisiana State University medicine clinic. UMC recruited two new physicians for the clinic, including one internal medicine specialist and one family medicine specialist.
The clinic is in a centralized location on UMC's campus, which makes it more accessible to patients, said Dr. Jennifer Hart, MD, medical director of UMC clinics and assistant professor of clinical medicine at LSU Health New Orleans.
The clinic is already taking appointments and will officially open Dec. 20.
