Aurora-based University of Colorado Health announced yesterday it will expand its Memorial Hospital North in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The four-story, 130,000-square-foot addition will include 20 inpatient beds, eight emergency department rooms and two operating rooms. The $85 million expansion will be used for women's and oncology services.
Established in 2007, Memorial Hospital North saw a 43 percent increase in inpatient admissions and four times as many outpatient visits throughout the past two years. Over the past year, a $15 million cancer center, catheterization lab and inpatient and outpatient oncology labs were constructed
"As the population is growing so, too, is the demand for expert care in northern El Paso County and southern Douglas County. We are pleased to be able to offer residents access to advanced care, close to home," Memorial CEO George Hayes said.
The expansion coincides with the construction of the $100 million Children's Hospital Colorado on Memorial Hospital North's campus, which will include 100 inpatient beds, an emergency room, operating rooms and neonatal and pediatric intensive care units.
Both facilities, which will be linked, are slated for completion mid-2018.
