Brevard, N.C.-based Transylvania Regional Hospital is planning to build a new emergency department to keep up with the surrounding community's growing population, according to News 13 WLOS.
The new ED will include a central nursing station surrounded by more than a dozen beds.
"Providing a space that's adequate for the volume of patients that we're seeing in this community is critical to achieve our quality and safety outcomes," said Kathy Guyette, senior vice president of patient care services, according to the report.
The hospital sees nearly 16,000 ED visits each year.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the new ED took place July 25, according to the report. Transylvania Regional Hospital officials expect to complete the project next fall.
