El Paso, Texas-based The Hospitals of Providence teamed up with The Woodlands, Texas-based Emerus to build a microhospital in Horizon City.
Here are five things to know about the microhospital.
1. The 40,000-square-foot facility will include an emergency department, inpatient unit and laboratory and imaging services. Medical offices for physicians and other providers will be built.
2. The facility will address Horizon City's increased need for healthcare services, according to The Hospitals of Providence. The city's population has grown at a rate of 180 percent since 2000.
3. Emerus is one of the country's first and largest operators of microhospitals, according to the statement.
4. Toby Hamilton, MD, founder and CEO of Emerus, said Emerus is "honored to partner with The Hospitals of Providence." Dr. Hamilton said Providence is a community cornerstone "that is a perfect match for Emerus' mission of providing the highest level of emergency and inpatient care with excellence and empathy in the communities in which people live."
5. The Hospitals of Providence will break ground on the facility Sept. 14.
