Swedish Covenant Hospital renovates ED

Chicago-based Swedish Covenant Hospital began renovating its emergency department in late 2016. The project includes modernizing approximately 16,755 square feet of existing facilities and the addition of new ED rooms.

"The new design is very forward looking and will enable us to adapt to changing needs such as technology enhancements and continuing patient volume increases in the future, plus we'll see increasing cost efficiency while providing a safe and healing care environment," Saliba Kokaly, vice president of facilities at Swedish Covenant Hospital, said in a news release.

The hospital and Anderson Mikos Architects included the input from physicians, nurses and other staff in the design of the new ED.

After the renovation, there will be 43 ED rooms, up from 37. The hospital is also creating a specialized behavioral health unit in the ED.
