Stamford Hospital offers luxury suites to patients' families

Family members of patients at Stamford (Conn.) Hospital no longer have to stay overnight in hotel rooms. Instead, they can spend the night in luxury suites adjacent to their loved one's room, reports the Stamford Advocate.

Beginning in November, families of patients receiving surgical, oncological and other medical care can opt for one of 15 "signature suites" at Stamford Hospital, which include a bed, desk, refrigerator and floor-to-ceiling windows. The suites will cost between $200 and $2,400 per night, depending on the meal plan and types of towels and sheets a family chooses.

The suites are part of Stamford Hospital's new $450 million facility. "Because we didn't have the space, we couldn't offer the suites before," said hospital spokesperson Craig Andrews.

StamfordHospital officials emphasize that the signature suites don't include additional medical care. "This is not about care, this is about amenities. You're not increasing the amount of nursing care that you get or the way the staff interacts with you," said Liz Longmore, the hospital's director of clinical operations.
