The expanded emergency room, outpatient and ambulance areas — the first phase of Savannah, Ga.-based St. Joseph's Hospital's $21.6 million expansion — are set to open Jan. 23, according to Business in Savannah.
The first phase of the 18-month expansion is designed to enhance patient care and emphasize the increasing demand for "retail healthcare," St. Joseph's President and CEO Paul P. Hinchey said, according to the report.
The 14,815-square-foot ER is 30 percent bigger than the old space. It will expand further from 24 rooms to 32 rooms, when additional renovations are completed this summer, according to the report.
The first phase of the expansion features three new entrances — at the ER, outpatient surgery, and imaging and ambulatory areas — each of which are designed to provide a more aesthetic and high-tech setting.
