Madison, Wis.-based SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital plans to renovate and expand the facility's adult behavioral health unit, according to WISC-TV news.
The current unit, built in the 1990s, holds 20 patients. The expansion will reportedly increase the facility's capacity by roughly 20 to 25 percent and include private rooms for patients and their families, according to the article.
"Parts of our current unit feel somewhat dated," Matthew Sager, MD, a psychiatrist at SSM Health St. Mary's, told WISC-TV. "The newly redesigned space will have a very calming and therapeutic feeling. We know that the environment can impact a patient's emotional wellbeing. We look forward to being able to provide a more home-like setting.”
The expansion will cost roughly $4.2 million. SSM Health St. Mary's Foundation, which is affiliated with the hospital, plans to raise $1.5 million of the expected cost through the foundation's Restoring Strength & Hope campaign, according to the article.
