On Wednesday, Saint Peter, Minn.-based River's Edge Hospital and Clinic's commission members approved a $33.8 million expansion project for the facility, according to the St. Peter Herald.
Approval for the expansion came after debate during a hospital commission meeting as the cost of the project was $2.55 million more than what hospital officials deemed the cost ceiling.
The original expansion project, expected to cost approximately $31 million, included adding emergency department space, an urgent care facility, more patient rooms and constructing surgical operating rooms.
The increased cost will allow the facility to replace rooftop heating, ventilation and air conditioning units and construct a staff quarters and a manager's office in the ED.
The additional $2.55 million will likely be financed through River Edge's reserves, according to the report.
